The lazy way to design a lazy living room

Lounging, lolling, lazing, vegetating while you plough through every season of Game of Thrones – it’s what living rooms were made for. So you better make sure you’re getting the most out of yours.

You’ve probably read a ton of articles telling you how to make your living room look nice or, yawn, making it liveable for others. But now it’s time to get selfish. You know that expression about dancing like no one’s watching? Well, kit out your living room like no one’s ever coming round.

So, what ideal items do you need to kick back, relax and feel the lull of a living room made just for you?

Come Recline With Me

You’ve probably all seen Friends and felt jealous of Chandler and Joey as they reclined in their La-Z-Boys. As they refreshed themselves with an ice cold beer, they leaned back into a vertical position like the kings of the world.

But a wonderful set of recliner chairs don’t have to be a pipedream. For a princely sum you can have the world of comfort in your living room. Alternatively, you could even invest in a recliner sofa to really spread out as you shove on a DVD and quietly drift off to sleep.

Your own private cinema

Back in the bad old days, tellies were bigger than most houses and had screens you had to squint at as though you were looking through a microscope. And they were less black and white, more grey and slightly lighter grey.

It makes you really appreciate stores lined with high-definition widescreen tellies, the type that are like black holes on your wall.

Yet, all these advances in tech can leave you befuddled if you’re a bit of a technophobe. But, fear not – there are only a few things you have to bear in mind.

Make sure your telly is HD ready, has an appropriate number of HDMI cables and a Freeview box in place, and you’re set.

Just don’t get square eyes after that mega Game of Thrones marathon, eh?

Ice cold refreshment – without even moving

You’ve returned from a long, lumbering day at the office. So what’s the last thing you want to do? Move.

Even a move to the kitchen to make a cold drink can feel too much like hard work. So it’s a good thing that mini fridges exist. Place one near your recliner, pop a few cold brews in it and you’ll be able to drink to your heart’s content – while barely moving a muscle.

And if you’re feeling especially lazy, you could even set up a kettle and a selection of teas and coffees on a side table next to your seating area. After all, what are living rooms for if not abject sloth?
